Several years ago, my coach shared an important lesson with me. This lesson involved three circles. The inner circle represents our own health and relationship with God. The next circle represents those closest to us, like our family, close friends, and our “created family.” The outer circle represents other important commitments like work, church, and missional outreach. In conversation he pointed out that the health from the center is to extend outward to the other circles. However, what often happens is that as humans we see the needs of the outer circle and end up neglecting those areas which are most important. I meditate on this circle frequently.
Recently God has helped me look at the circle image as a target. A target shows you the most important area to focus—the center. In a sport that uses targets the goal is to get as close to the target as you can. That is where the focus is that is where the shot is aimed—the center.
Let’s look at the center as our relationship with Trinity. Here I am speaking of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. As we grow in our relationship with God, the natural outflow will be better relationships with those close to us and then better relationships with our other commitments.
How close are you to the center of the target? What do you need to help you with your aim? Let me know if you would like to schedule a time to pray and seek God for how you can get closer to the center—to that relationship with him.
In His service,
Pastor Melody
