As I was praying about this year at Geneseo, God gave me the theme “Meet Me.” God is calling us to a deeper and deeper relationship with him. He longs for us to meet him in whatever situation we may find ourselves in.

For the last several weeks, we have been invited to the series “Meet Me By the Sea.” In this series, we walked with Jesus, his disciples, and those they encountered along the way in the remote northern part of the former nation of Israel. Here, by the sea, Jesus helped those around him come to a greater understanding of the God who came to earth to walk with us in whatever situation we may find ourselves in. We are now entering into a new season, the season of Lent.

You are all invited to a special time of reflection during our Ash Wednesday worship, which is scheduled for 6:30 this Wednesday, March 5. At that service, we will reflect on the upcoming season of Lent and prepare to listen more closely to the God who calls us to Himself. Starting Sunday, we will start our Lenten series, “Meet Me in a Dry Land.”

In the “Meet Me in a Dry Land” series, we will explore the Old Testament, going back to when the people of God were wandering in the desert. We will consider the scriptures and how they relate to Jesus’s time on earth and to the dry places we find ourselves today.

I pray this series will help us all walk with Jesus closer and find ways to introduce him to those we meet along the way.
