Last Sunday we celebrated our graduating high school seniors. Mark Twin once said "The two most important days in your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why” The scripture was from Jeremiah 29:10-14. "For I know the plans I have for you” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” This was addressed to the people of Jerusalem that were being held captive by the Babylonians. He wanted his people to have hope and a future, consequently they could call upon him in confidence. Although the exiles were in a difficult place and time, they should not despair because they had God’s presence, the privilege of prayer, and God’s grace. God can be sought and found when we seek him wholeheartedly. Neither strange lands, sorrows, frustration, nor physical problems can break that communion. Looking to God to help guide one and discern the future is the best way to answer the questions - what is my purpose, why was I born? The movie Chariots of Fire was based on the life story of the runner Eric Liddell. One of his more famous quotes is “God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast and when I run, I feel His pleasure." Our hope for our graduates is that they can find their passion, their why, so that they can one day say, "God made me for a purpose but he also made me a _______ and when I ________, I feel his pleasure. (you can fill in the blanks).
